Ahaa, a nice blog challenge at the beginning of the (European) academic year, and it’s a quick compare and contrast job, initiated by Brad Patterson. So… I was looking at my photos and found a couple with a good amount of contrast in them. These are two I snapped back in May, showing a canal running under a bridge:

^^So that is one view. Here comes the other…

My question to you is this:
Where were these two pictures taken?
Chapeau to Anne Hodgson and Helmut for kick starting this here
Other bloggers challenging with their photos:

Have no idea where that is… but love the shots ! Credit 4 the blog challenge definitely goes to Anne and Helmut ! Cheers, b

They look a lot like Birmingham to me

Hmm, with the narrowboats, the red brick, the style of roof and the apparent recent redevelopment in the form of the bridge, I want to say one of the industrial northern English cities (at least, north of London) that used the canals for moving goods around. Manchester? A friend of mine who does canal boating suggested Birmingham.
Nice pics! Felt like Sherlock Holmes for a second there.
Birmingham? Great shots, and great challenge.
I know, I know….. (doesn’t count if I remember you taking it, does it?)

Well done Sandy, Gordon (well 1/2 well done) and David! It was in fact Birmingham, an afternoon spent there with Phil (see his spoiler above) after a British Council meeting.
I really like the negative space (all that black) in these two pics, and was really happy how they came out. The contrast between the blackness of the tunnel and the light playing on the water really makes these photos work for me.
=)
